Parcel Delivery Safety Crime Prevention |

|
Good Morning,
With Black Friday sales and Christmas approaching and with parcel theft on the rise, making sure your parcels are securely stored and delivered is very important. St James Safer Neighbourhood Team are aware of the issue with parcel theft in the ward, and would like to share some practical advice with ways to reduce the risk of being affected by this growing trend of theft of items left unattended by delivery drivers.
Here are some things you can do to keep your parcels safe: Use parcel tracking information to ensure you or somebody else is at home at the time of delivery Install a video doorbell; this can be connected to your mobile so you are notified immediately of any delivery, and is easier to install than a full CCTV system Install a security light Arrange for your parcel to be delivered to a trusted neighbour, or other family members who will be at home; if you live in a flat, is there a concierge who could accept the parcel for you? Get a ‘signed for’ delivery if possible so that the delivery driver must hand it to you and get a signature Choose Click and Collect to collect parcel directly from store Use a parcel locker service for deliveries - there are a number companies with secure parcel lockers such as; Amazon, InPost, Evri, Post Office. These parcel lockers are most likely to be in busy, safer locations - such as supermarkets- rather than secluded areas which could be targeted by thieves. Specifically if you live in a flat: If your parcel has been delivered to the foyer of the building, collect your parcel as soon as its been delivered. Don't let people tailgate you into the building - if you don't know the person, do not let them follow you in.
Keep yourself and your parcels safe! St James Safer Neighbourhood Team
